In the past, I've written about what not to do when planning a couple's Halloween costume. Now I'd like to offer five ideas for fun costumes to wear with your guy this year. Check them out below, and let me know what you're dressing up as this year. 

With the new season of Dexter in full swing, now is a good time to resurrect your Dexter Morgan and victim costume. And there are so many "Dexter and victim" combos to choose from! He could be plainclothes Miami Metro Dexter, while you are his bloody cheek, pre-murder prey. Or maybe he'll go as "kill room Dexter" with chainsaw and mask, and you'll be his one of his wrapped in plastic victims. Because nothing says Halloween like pretending to be a bloody victim in your boyfriend's vigilante killing spree. 

You're bound to see tons of men and women dressed as Jo Calderone, Gaga's chain-smoking, Andrew Dice Clay-esque character from the MTV Video Music Awards. So why not go as both Gaga and her bizarre alter ego and blow everybody's mind? You're dating your own split persona! Or go old-school and opt for Garth Brooks and his short-lived alt-rock character Chris Gaines. 

Outside of The Joker and Harley Quinn, there are few characters geeky couples love dressing up together more as than the Eleventh Doctor and his redheaded companion. And if you're not a redhead, fear not -- you can reuse the wig next year for your Mary Jane and Peter Parker costumes.

Every hipster dude worth his trust fund will be going as Ryan Gosling's Driver character from Drive this year. Sure, they can't buy the official scorpion jacket until November, but that won't stop hipsters from ironing one onto their retro bowling jackets. The simplicity of this costume (don't forget the toothpick and hammer!) and cultural cache guarantees that hipsters will run this costume into the ground faster than you can say "Richie from The Royal Tenenbaums." So since your guy is probably dying to go as The Gos, why not join him as Carey Mulligan's doe-eyed love interest character? (She had a name, right?) Or even better, go as Christina Hendricks' shady character before her head was, er, before she met an untimely demise.

Angry Birds and zombies, be they of the corporate or Walking Dead variety, are two of the year's hottest costumes. So why not combine them and go as ravenous Angry Zombie Birds! "Pig brains...must eat pig brains..."
