A few days ago, Twitter blew up with the word that iTunes was streaming the new Justin Timberlake (JT) album, The 20/20 Experience, an album nobody knew he was making until he dropped "Suit & Tie" on radio, days before the release of the album. So like anybody else with a computer and ears, I traipsed right on over to iTunes to listen to his album.
I'm half surprised that the iTunes Store didn't implode under the weight of a gazillion folks wanting to listen to it since, well, JT moves the needle. We have very few artists like him that can appeal to pretty much any audience he wants to by virtue of his mere existence. He sings well. He acts well and he has pulled nearly every hot chick du jour, settling on one of THE hottest in Jessica Biel. Aye caramba.
He makes urban pop music that can play on any format radio staiton. Except probably country, but if Taylor Swift still counts, then I don't see why JT doesn't.
Zing.
Once many moons ago, I wrote that JT could be the great racial unifier because he appeals to all. Well, I'm taking that a step further and saying that he might also be able to save love. As soon as I saw the album was streaming, I went to go listen. I love it. It's a beautiful piece of music that is as much due to the work of producer Timbaland (who produced or co-produced the entire thing) as it is to JT. But its his album and I'll assume that he had a significant hand its conception and completion.
Well do you know what I wanted to do after I listened to it? I wanted to share it. I wanted to go give it to people I didn't know (I couldn't, it was only streaming) and hug strangers. The music compelled the part of my heart where an icebox used to be. As we all know and learned in kindergarten, sharing is caring.
It did something else to. The album made me smile. And I wanted to share (and care) that smile with others. I felt a sudden need to spread loveon Christmas Day and find some way to make the lives better of people in my path. I found love in a hopeless place and Rihanna was nowhere to be found.
JT decided to create music that inspires emotion. And because he's got so many fans that are both men and women, there are going to be men out here in these streets attempting to be a little happier and nicer to the women they love and care about. And that's a step in the right direction. Women are going to want to hump to this music (or at least make out if they're under legal humping age in their state, whatever that may be) which is the truest incarnation of love. Expressing love through human nature. Why? Why? Tell them that it's human nature.
The point of it all is that music is one of the great unifiers and helps us express love. Well Justin Timberlake is already a unifier, and he made an album that can help love conquer all through its sheer volume and breadth.
Thank you JT for helping save love. Thank you for being a friend.

I see your Omarion/Timbaland reference...and I'll raise the ante with an "I'm so cold."
Actually, I have with two blankets on right now. But anyway, although I'm still (STILL) miffed the sexyback track beat out Depeche Mode at the grammy's, I might...juuuust might check out his new album then.
