R.I.P. Amy Winehouse. Here are Five of Her Best Songs

As you've no doubt heard, Amy Winehouse was found dead today at her home in London. While a cause of death has yet to be determined, her ongoing substance abuse problem is likely to blame. She was 27, the same age as Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix were when they passed.

Tragically, this news probably doesn't come as a surprise to many, given tabloid coverage of Winehouse's erratic behavior and frequent rehab stints. For many people, she became something of a joke; yet another celebrity (like Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen, etc.) whose drug addiction and mental illness became fodder for late-night talk shows and gossip blogs.

But what I'll always remember is the music. Though her output was slim (two albums and an EP), her music kicked off a resurgence of jazz-y pop singers. Without Amy, we wouldn't have similar artists like Lily Allen, Duffy, and current chart-topper Adele. Like Adele's "Rolling in Deep," Winehouse's hit single "Rehab" was a breath of fresh air in an Auto-Tuned pop landscape. It sounded like nothing else on the radio, and ushered in a return of singers who could actually sing.

I never got to see Amy Winehouse perform live. Amid all the tabloid noise and snarky comments (some of which I'm sure I made at one time), I always held out hope that she'd pull it together and release another album. For a while there, it seemed like she would be like Lauryn Hill--a troubled artist forever haunted by her first major success. Reportedly Winehouse was at work on new material before her death. While we may see posthumous releases, ala Tupac and Michael Jackson, it's sad that we'll never get another album from one of the best artists of the past decade. Join me for a look at five of Amy's best songs. These are the songs that got me through failed relationships ("Love is a Losing Game" is on my list of the best break-up songs) and made me want to dance. R.I.P. Amy. You will be missed.

"Rehab"

"Valerie" (The best version of this song. Glee can bite me.)

"Back to Black" (my favorite Winehouse song)

"You Know I'm No Good"

"Love is a Losing Game"

Everyone says she started the trend but I feel like they all followed Joss Stone (though I just checked and Joss & Amy had their debut albums the same year, so... maybe I'm wrong and just heard of Amy late).

Yeah, though I tend to think of Joss Stone as more R&B. And people forget that "Rehab" was sooo big and then all of a sudden Lily Allen, Duffy, Adele and other soul/jazz-y singers showed up.

This has been really strangely generous with people like you to supply unhampered exactly what numerous people might have sold for an ebook to end up making some bucks for themselves, especially considering that you might have done it in the event you decided.

I precisely desired to say thanks yet again. I am not sure the things that I would’ve sorted out without the actual creative concepts shared by you about my problem
