One of the obvious main draws of Braxton Family Values, WE tv's show about the life of Grammy-award winning superstar singer Toni Braxton and her sisters, is Tamar Braxton. She's the loud, dramatic, energetic little sister of the bunch. And she just might be the most extra woman in the planet.
What does "extra" mean? Well, you know how you have normal people who kind of take in information and respond accordingly? Well an "extra" person would take that information (say somebody lost a job) and run up and down the street, do a cartwheel, lament on the state of world affairs and how unfair the world is while sulking and moaning. Basically, they don't respond to anything without adding a show to it.
That is Tamar to an absolute "T." Every single week on Braxton Family Values she has to do some over the top something or other. It's like she's on a one woman quest for all of the attention on the planet. And let's be frank, these people are the most difficult people on the planet.
For instance, in last night's episode, the sisters are schedule to perform at a WE tv luncheon without their sister, lead singer Toni, because she recently had a surgery. So they have to go into survivor mode and pull a show together.
From JUMP, Tamar was in everybody's behind with all of the unnecessary minutiae of being extra. It's like she can't hold any of the drama inside of her. The big blow up on the show centered around her and bigger sister Towanda. Here are the facts: the sisters have a show they aren't ready for in three days. They are rehearsing. Towanda wants to go home to be with her son on his first day of school in Atlanta.
What happens is this, Towanda lets them know she's shaking that popsicle stand to head home to Atlanta but will be ready in NYC for the show. Tamar blows her lid. She's telling Towanda what should matter to her and Towanda is telling Tamar what DOES matter to her. No "extra" person is above walking out on people, a feat that Tamar actually pulls off twice with great aplomb. Every "extra" person also has to declare to any listening ears how disrespected they are and how they are right. At all times.
In their desire to pull all attention, they also don't want to leave they just want somebody to expend energy to get them to stay. As Tamar did. She could easily be talked back into a studio to finish rehearsal (this after Trina - my wife as soon as her and Gabe call it quits - rationally convinces Towanda to stay until the next day to leave to maximize rehearsal time) quite easily. See, "extra" people just need to know that other people care.
This is Tamar again. Of course, Towanda then apologizes because its the smart thing to do for business. See, Tamar decided to hold up practice until she got an apology despite the fact that her whole point the night before was that business is business and you do what you need to do get the show done.
Interestingly enough, I think Tamar actually had a point. Towanda should have known better than to accept a gig knowing that she had a conflict of interest. And sacrifice is the name of the fame game. It worked out but Tamar was right. However, because she's so damn "extra" with it, her entire point, principle, and semblance of being right gets completely obscured.
Seriously, I can't imagine dealing with anybody like that on a day-to-day basis. Praise her husband, Vince. He seems so nice.
The funny part, however, was the broaching of a Braxton Family album. Talk about a trainwreck in waiting. In fact, I envision them recording an album similar to the runaway, powered train in the Denzel Washington movie "Unstoppable." Except in the Braxton version of the movie, Scranton gets wiped out - all 700,000 people. Plus somebody's dog.
With that said, she's absolutely the reason I tune in. Well, actually I tune in to look at Trina. I love her. But Tamar's "extra"-ness is what draws folks in. She's primed for television. Oh, and they pulled off the show that Tamar thought they weren't ready for. And at the end of the day, all was right with the world.
Le sigh.
And le fin.
I'll be watching next Thursday though. I miss Tamar already.

I love the show but I can't stand watching Tamar and her "I'm better than everyone and I'm always right" dramatic attitude. She makes the show unwatchable.
I cannot STAND how much she has to roll her neck when she responds to ANYTHING, lol.
I love Tamar. She does it for me.
