I don't really watch a lot of reality shows. The main reason is that I feel like there's far too little reality and way to much total non-sense and nincompoopery. And sometimes, Braxton Family Values feels that way. But this last episode where the sisters attempted to hash out their problems in therapy and the ensuing family retreat, well, that was some quality reality television.
Here's a list of reasons why:
1. We actually saw what seemed like to be some growth from Tamar
Granted, one episode does not growth make, but Tamar was dedicated to the therapy session and even somewhat willing to listen. But she showed me something on that family retreat. It mattered to her for all of her sisters to participate and be dedicated to the goal here: sisterly love and unity.
2. Traci has some things to get off her chest and I'm glad she started to do that
Of course, most of her issues stem from a 20 year problem that is of her own doing. But hell, if you're holding on to something for that long you're going to need to let that out. And even though it probably hurt and sucked for everybody else to hear it, she definitely needed to let it out.
3. Family bonding really does work
I have a pretty huge family. Once a year we usually all get together, as an entire unit, and it does wonders to keep us so close. I have 4 sisters and we are a very tight-knit unit. Of course we have our moments where one person is annoying the other person but we're all still people. At the end of the day, we all hate to separate from one another and that lets me know that we really care. And that's what I took from the Braxton family retreat.
4. There's always one though...Toni
What do I mean by "there's always one"? Well, it means that anytime people all come together to grow as a group, there's one person who undoubtedly will decide to do things different. Or not be fully committed. And Toni was that person. Which is odd since, hell, the retreat was her idea. Yeah she blamed her health issues, and Towanda gave her a pass, but really, if you're going to be on a retreat to bond with your sisters and get back to where you all know you can be, you can't be out there skipping activities when you're the reason the activities are happening in the first place. Tamar was right on every point when it came to this.
5. They really do love eachother
As the weeks have progressed on this show, we've seen constant discord and tension. But underneath that all, you can tell that they all do indeed love one another and care. They all want the best for each other. To that end I'm glad the retreat got Tamar on board with doing the Braxton Family album, with or without Toni, because that's the shot Traci has been waiting on. She wants to see what life looks like in the entertainment industry but also to be apart of the group her sisters got the chance to be. That retreat and bonding did wonders.
Now if I only go on a bonding retreat with Trina!
