My girlfriend, and all of her friends, are big into Pinterest, and it is apparently designed to confuse anyone with a penis. At least if you listen to gadget bloggers, who are deeply confused about how this site works. Fortunately, I have a penis, and I understand the complex and confusing concepts of Pinterest, so I'm able to explain the mechanics to them.
By which I mean, you click a button. With a mouse. On the Internet. I understand that you find the female mind inherently confusing, but when your job is to review smartphones, computers, and kitchen gizmos, this shouldn't be so confusing.
For those unfamiliar, Pinterest lets you create a virtual "pinboard"; you create them for different topics, and then "pin" images you see on the site to different boards. It also apparently functions as Internet crack for women: every night, my girlfriend spends at least a little time on Pinterest, as do all her friends.
Here's how I learned how Pinterest worked: I asked my girlfriend what she was doing, and she explained it in less than a minute.
I will admit that, as a man, I think Pinterest has some flaws. Their "geek" section is classified by its users, which means you see a lot of stuff that is absolutely not geeky (like "Twilight" and mainstream bands) under its heading. But for guys, especially if you already use the site, it's a vital resource. Why?
#1) Gift Ideas
If you have no idea what to get her for her birthday, your anniversary, Valentine's Day, what have you, simply look at her Pinterest boards. There are generally gift ideas, or at least gift hints, floating all over the place.
Also, it's a two-way street: she's probably going to do the exact same thing to you.
#2) It's Something You Can Share
Unlike having to read a 600-page book or sit through a romantic comedy, scrolling through Pinterest boards is fairly easy to do, and it's something you can share together.
#3) It's Fun To Torture Gadget Bloggers With Their Incompetence

I love Pinterest. I like that it is a bit of everything and with a click adapts to suit my mood.
One more use is for photographers to get their images being seen with links to their sites. I guess the same applies to crafters, artisans, etc.

2. how do you see recipes? i see pictures of food but no recipes, does that come when you have an account or am i blind? :P
Candice-- it took a few days to a week for me to get approved or invited or whatever to pinterest. I was anxious to get started and still don't understand why they do this.
You click on the picture of the craft or recipe or whatever and it should take you to the directions!
