Confession time: I kind of love the Golden Globes. Yes, it's a meaningless vanity parade infamous for both its questionable nominees (Johnny Depp for Best Comedic Actor for The Tourist? Really?) and even more questionable ethics. But it's also the one night of the year when Hollywood's biggest stars get completely wasted on live television. (Remember when Christine Lahti was in the bathroom when her award was announced? Uh, remember Christine Lahti?)
So join me for a look at who will win on Sunday's telecast. Feel free to use my picks in your office poll. (Don't let Karen in Accounting win again. She thinks she's some big expert just because she subscribes to Entertainment Weekly. You'll show her this year! You'll show them all!) And tell me your picks in the comments. I'll tally up the results and announce the reader with the most winning choices on Monday. The winner gets bragging rights and the title of "Sexiest GuySpeak Reader of All Time."
Here are the nominees in the major categories:
Best Motion Picture, Drama
Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The King's Speech
The Social Network
My pick: The Social Network. It's the best film here, and also the one with the most awards season buzz. Though if my mom were picking the winners, The King's Speech would win every category. (Even the ones it isn't nominated for, like Best Song.)
Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical
Alice in Wonderland
Burlesque
The Kids Are All Right
Red
The Tourist
My pick: The Kids Are All Right. The rest of the category is kind of a joke. In what universe is The Tourist a comedy? I guess it's funny that nobody wanted to pay money to see it in the theater. Also, the only award Burlesque will ever win is for the movie most likely to become the next Showgirls.
Best Animated Movie
Despicable Me
How to Train Your Dragon
The Illusionist
Toy Story 3
Tangled
My pick: People seem to like Tangled and The Illusionist, but Toy Story 3 made me weep like a giant freakin' baby. If it doesn't score a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars, Hollywood should close up shop forever.
Best Director, Motion Picture
Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan
David Fincher, The Social Network
Tom Hooper, The King's Speech
Christopher Nolan, Inception
David O. Russell, The Fighter
My pick: While Fincher will likely ride The Social Network buzz train to victory, Aronofsky might (and should) be an upset. Though if the award was for "longest shot of a van falling in slow motion," Nolan would be a lock.
Best Actor, Drama
Colin Firth, The King's Speech
Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
James Franco, 127 Hours
Mark Wahlberg, The Fighter
Ryan Gosling, Blue Valentine
My pick: Eisenberg and Franco seem to be neck-and-neck for this one. I'm giving it to Franco, mostly because I'm hoping that he'll accept the award as his creepy General Hospital character.
Best Actress, Drama
Halle Berry, Frankie and Alice
Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence, Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman, Black Swan
Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine
My pick: First off, this is a really strong category. Every actress here gives a better performance than any of the Best Actor nominees. (Though Halle Berry still has a long way to go before I'll forgive her for Catwoman.) Ladies represent! That said, the award belongs to Portman. Just give her the Globe and the Oscar now so we can all move on with our lives.
Best Supporting Actor, Drama
Christian Bale, The Fighter
Michael Douglas, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Andrew Garfield, The Social Network
Jeremy Renner, The Town
Geoffrey Rush, The King's Speech
My pick: Christian Bale will be rewarded for following the time-honored tradition of losing a ton of weight for the sake of your art.
Best Supporting Actress, Drama
Helena Bonham Carter, The King's Speech
Amy Adams, The Fighter
Mila Kunis, Black Swan
Jacki Weaver, Animal Kingdom
Melissa Leo, The Fighter
My pick: Mila Kunis. Oh, wait, are we choosing Best Supporting Actress or "most likely to pop up in my dreams covered in a dessert topping of some sort"?
Best Actor, Comedy or Musical
Johnny Depp, Alice in Wonderland
Johnny Depp, The Tourist
Paul Giamatti, Barney's Version
Jake Gyllenhaal, Love and Other Drugs
Kevin Spacey, Casino Jack
My pick: Ugh. This category is a mess. Neither Alice nor The Tourist were high points for Depp, and I know absolutely zero people who saw Love and Other Drugs. They'll give it to Kevin Spacey, because he's playing a real person (disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff) and because poor Paul Giamatti can't catch a break.
Best Actress, Comedy or Musical
Anne Hathaway, Love and Other Drugs
Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right
Julianne Moore, The Kids Are All Right
Emma Stone, Easy A
Angelina Jolie, The Tourist
My pick: Bening will probably score an Oscar nom for her hilariously brittle performance in Kids, so she basically owns this category. Though giving the award to future Spider-Man star Stone would definitely earn the Hollywood Foreign Press some much-needed nerd cred.
Best TV Series, Comedy
30 Rock
The Big Bang Theory
The Big C
Glee
Modern Family
Nurse Jackie
My pick: 30 Rock is always great, but Modern Family is the best sitcom on TV right now. Also, why isn't Community nominated? You're seriously telling me that the "Laura Linney has cancer but doesn't tell her family for some reason" show is funnier than Community's epic paintball episode?
Best TV Series, Drama
Boardwalk Empire
Dexter
Mad Men
The Walking Dead
The Good Wife
My pick: I love Dexter, but this past season wasn't its best. Mad Men will win, but The Walking Dead should. Meanwhile, my mom is rooting for The Good Wife.

Where's Best Actress, Comedy Or Musical.........
Added! Now tell me your picks.
The award for Best Golden Globes goes to Salma Hayek. Always.
The Walking Dead was fantastic. I was bummed that the season was so short.
Toy Story 3 is a lock.
This is great. I'm excited to see who wins and if my picks match up with yours. The competition is on for the winner and Sexiest "Guyspeak Reader of All Time" bragging rights!
I remember when I first saw the nominees for the Golden Globes, my reaction was WTF. I love Jennifer Hewitt, but seriously, really, REALLY??? And don’t get me started on Burlesque, smh. Stonestreet definitely needs to win. Nice picks! Amy Adams was great. She'll probably win.
You know me, I saw Love and Other Drugs and Jake Gyllenhaal did more than just be hot and take his shirt off, he was hot, he took his shirt off and he acted! I'm going for him as the long shot to win here!
Poor Emma Stone going up against Benning & Moore in this category. We both know that The Kids are All Right was one of the best movies of the year, but Emma Stone gave one of the greatest comedic performances. She'd actually have a chance to win this if it weren't for the epic lesbian couple.
I think Aronofsky will win director but you are right about the longest van falling shot of all time. I should win for longest nap of all time during Inception.
And I disagree with you, even though I don't watch Mad Men, I predict that The Walking Dead WILL win best drama. I also disagree on Best Actor drama. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Colin Firth will with this. He was great in A Single Man and I hear he was even better in The King's Speech. Sounds like your mom would agree with me. Give it to Colin!
The Walking Dead should totally win! Zombies + Norman Reedus + Steven Yuen = best show EVER!
