"The Today Show" announced this week it's opening its annual wedding contest to gay and lesbian contestants (it had been restricted to straight couples for the past 11 years). How do you guys feel about a gay wedding on morning TV hosted by Matt, Meredith, Al and Ann?

Are you telling me "The Today Show" is more progressive than most of America? That show hosted by a clearly drunk Kathie Lee Gifford that's like four hours long allows something that is outlawed in 95% of the country? Really?
That's it. I'm done with America. If you need me, I'll be moving to Canada.

The same way I feel about any wedding broadcast on television: it's taking up valuable space that would better be occupied by oven-bake hash brown advertisements. But hey, if the gay community wants to make terrible television, who am I to stand in their way? I mean if someone was going to, it'd probably be Al anyway (for stability reasons, not homophobia reasons).

What's "The Today Show?"
Also: I firmly believe that the gay and lesbian community have the right to experience the joys of divorce.

I think opening up the wedding contest to gay and lesbian couples is a trés fabo idea. Why do straight people have monopoly on marriage anyway? Oh, right. The government. Good job, "The Today Show." You show the government who's boss! What was I saying? Oh, I think gay and lesbian couples should have the same access to be part of the lovely marriage statistics as anybody else. Viva la bam! A gay wedding on morning TV is about as exciting as watching constant reruns of Bonanza, which also come on morning TV. I'm glad they can participate, but couldn't care less.

It's about time. Gay couples exist whether the right-wingers and Bible-thumpers like it or not, and their love for each other is no less valid than hetero love. I could do without Matt, though. What a pompous twat.

I would take part in a lesbian wedding on morning TV only if I also get to appear in the first lesbian episode of "Bridezillas." I would seriously change my sexual orientation for that honor. Can someone from WE tv get in touch with my agent? And also find me a girlfriend?
Good for "the today show". It's rediculous that gay people aren't allowed to marry in most states in this country. I was embarassed for California after Prop 8 didnt pass. There's a lot of ugly, hateful, ignorent people out there I guess. Maybe they can watch and see how love between two consenting adults is perfectly acceptable.
I couldn't agree with you more. Prop 8 is an embarrassment -- hope it gets overturned!
I agree. I totally think they should be allowed to get married in all states, but I have better things to do in the morning than watch live TV wedding, no matter who it is that's getting married.
good for them! gay and lesbian love isn't any different than our own heterosexual love. GLBT's are BORN that way. people have been discriminating against people for various reasons forever. i cant wait for the day when in all 50 states gays and lesbians can rightfully be married. i dont think america is quite ready for that yet, as the whole gay rights thing is finally becoming a big deal. this is going to this generations fight for civil rights.
I have to say that for the past few of hours i have been hooked by the amazing articles on this website. Keep up the wonderful work.
