A new study from the University of Iowa says that couples who hook up on a first date are just as likely to form meaningful relationships as those who wait several dates to have sex. (As long as both people are open to relationships in general.) Guys - do you think it's possible to form a serious relationship after going all the way on date #1? Or do guys prefer the kind of girl who waits a few dates?

The "no kiss" on a first date rule is old-fashioned, like duels, bicycles with one giant wheel, or bedbugs. If two people have chemistry, palpable chemistry, then there's absolutely no reason why they shouldn't take the plunge. Besides, it's pretty time efficient. Why wait a couple of dates to discover something that you figure out immediately: that he kisses like he's eating a scoop of ice cream.

In all seriousness, I've never had a first date hookup, but I'd like to think that if I did it wouldn't affect my opinion of the relationship prospects one way or the other. After all, we're both in the same, sexy, desperate boat.

I do think it's possible to form a serious relationship after a first-date hookup. I just don't recommend it as a modus operandi. Fact is, some guys will judge a woman as easy if she's giving it up so easy. Hey, why should he be special, ya know? The mind can cause you all sorts of evil thoughts. But, under the right circumstances and vibe, it's totally doable. The relationship, not her...then again, I guess she IS totally doable hence the question in the first place. I've never had a first date hook up that ended up going the distance, but I also probably wasn't interested in her like that anyway. In conclusion, read my lips: do what you feel and deal with the consequences. If you're worried about if it will work out, you probably shouldn't be skinny dipping ten minutes into the first date, anyway.

It takes all kinds, ladies. As for my advice, I recommend waiting it out a bit, for your own sake. Why not build up to dessert rather than diving right in? A bit of anticipation will only make that cherry on top taste better. That said - if you're starving for something sweet, go ahead and take a lick.

There's nothing wrong with making out on the first date. If sex happens, that's also okay. But maybe put on the breaks after that so you there's still some suspense and mystery. You don't want the spark, the butterflies in the stomach, and the rest to vanish just because you jumped to the sex part too quickly. With the right guy, it won't matter whether you sleep with him on the first date or the tenth.  No one every died or lost body parts from waiting. Follow your instincts, and be safe.

Yes, I think it's possible to form a serious relationship if you knock boots on the first date, and I have. But in my experience, the odds are against it. First-date sex is like eating your dessert before the meal arrives: it's still tasty, but you usually end up wishing you'd waited and let the anticipation build, because that's half the fun. The meal isn't as good now, either.
