Us menfolks tend to do a lot of complaining about Valentine's Day. For a lot of us, its a made up day that causes us to have to go drop a ton of money on flowers and candy and restaurants where we'd not normally eat. But the truth is, we don't mind it as much as we let on.
Hell, the only real beef most of us have with it is that it falls in February, less than 2 months from Christmas where most of us spent all of our money. We don't mind showering our significant others with love and affection...we just don't want to be forced into it. I think that makes us human.
Yeah. Human.
Which is why days like "National Proposal Day" get the WTF? treatment from anybody who has heard of it. Oh, you're saying you haven't heard of it? Neither had I. Until I did. Thank you The Frisky.
So apparently, National Proposal Day is a day that's intended to get men and women who are stalled out right before the finish line to have that discussion that helps them push their relationship over that last hurdle before forever: you know, have a talk about getting engaged. This year, that date falls on March 20th.
You know, there are some made up days I can fully get behind. Columbus Day for instance. For some reason we commemorate the day a man had to acknowledge he was lost. Then there's Great Auntie and Biscuits Day...or something. I'm sure I heard about that one day. But those days are harmless.
National Proposal Day on the other hand is just so entirely random that I can't imagine why anybody think this is a good idea on any scale. The engagement convo is already one of the hardest ones to have without the pressure of somebody attempting to drop the, "well, I mean it is the day to do it...we should at least talk about it."
Granted, the creator of said day, doesn't actually expect everybody who is on the cusp to pop the question that day, but it is an encouragement to go ahead and take the leap if you hadn't picked a time and date. I can admit the idea has merit, but still, does that need its own day?
Then again, if somebody can dream up a White House petition to have R. Kelly's "Ignition (Remix)" replace "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the national anthem and actually get over 9,200 (and counting) signatures, then I suppose anything is possible.
So what do you think about National Proposal Day? Good idea? Bad idea?
R. Kelly would like to know.

It's a horrible idea!! I don't really get into Valentines day either (I'm female) because it does feel forced and contrived, but proposal day?? What a great way to make everyone who is single feel awkward for an entire day.
