On January 1st, 2011, the very first Baby Boomers officially hit 65, the retirement age in many countries. And they are not going to quietly sit in their rockers and meditate, while grumbling at you to get your damned dog off their lawn. They'll shoot you instead, and pull probation, not jail time, from the judge because of their age.
It is fashionable for Generation X and Generation Y members, (that is, most of our readership) to blame every ill in the world on the Baby Boomers. Global warming and environmental collapse? All their fault. Multi-national capitalism? Them again. The breakdown of society? All Baby Boomers. Raising their kids to be selfish and entitiled with no sense of personal responsibility? Those damned baby boo... Oh. Wait a minute. Scratch that one, it is getting too personal now.
Yet we forget. The same generation that supposedly screwed up the world also made it a better place. A place where discrimination by race, religion or sexual orientation is not acceptable - OK, that last bit still needs work, but they did the basics. A place where you are free to express yourself, because they made sure that you could. A place where you can buy, cheaply, a device the size of their fathers cigarette case that can put you in touch with anyone in the world.
A place where youth, health and fitness is the ideal of society, thanks to their obsession with not getting old. Baby Boomers are terrified of getting old. So what do you think they are going to devote their attention to, once the calendar smacks them in the face. They are going to attack age related problems, with the same vigor they attacked social ones when they were younger. Meaning, once again, you will benefit from their hard work and dedication to not dying and staying sexually active and appealing (Authors Note: clicking that link in public will get you looked at as you laugh like a drain).
So, stop complaining about the old. Without them, you'd have nothing at all. In a world where a 110 year old guy can advertise for a wife, and get one, the rules no longer apply.

Wow. Well put! Thank you for giving our generation some perspective! We're doing our fair share to mess things up as well, we're not entirely innocent!
Absolutely pent content material, Really enjoyed studying.
