I agree with nick. Being inexperienced, he might not know what you like and rather than have that conversation, he just took it upon himself to find out! Now, from your reaction, he might know never to do that again but he might try and slip another one again. If that is the case, definately have that conversation. Alternatively, i think it is important to discuss your likes and dislikes (whilst having coitus or some similar intimate activity) when you are past the shy and akward stage....
