Let me be upfront here, I never quite understood the fascination with the Casey Anthony/Caylee Anthony case. There are thousands of other cases in America involving missing and murdered children, but for some reason the media fascination with Casey Anthony trumped all for the past few weeks. I guess we were due since every few years we all get caught up in one particular individual and their story and case.
Now don’t get me wrong, this case was bizarre for every possible imaginable reason. Casey Anthony seems like a sociopath of epic proportions and her family isn’t exactly the model of stability, love, and support. I’ll spare all of the details of the case because you can go to CNN or any other major news outlet and read about the entire thing.
Much like everybody else I was shocked that she was found not guilty. I honestly thought that the emotions of the case (and the COMPLETE lack of emotions on the part of Casey Anthony) would curry some favor. But nope. She was found not guilty of first degree murder and manslaughter charges and found guilty of four misdemeanor counts of effectively lying to authorities.
She’ll likely be free on Thursday.
And that frustrates me to high hell. To be fair, the prosecution did little else than prove that she’s a terrible parent unfit to bear children. The proof that an actual murder existed was minimal. By the way, this is my objective opinion. My emotional reaction has me pissed beyond belief that its very likely nobody will pay for what happened.
Even if she wasn’t murdered and her death was an accident, between the time of her disappearance and her eventual discovery, some crime took place. The state of her body being taped and placed in a bag. Or the mere fact that this little girl’s disappearance went unreported for so long. What in the holy hell are we doing in this country?
I have a daughter and I can’t imagine my life if something were to happen to her like that. Heads would roll. Casey’s indifferent and seemingly uncaring attitude the entire time of the trial amazed me. At the end of the day, your daughter is dead. Your life…but she couldn’t seem to give two *CENSORED*.
It’s not surprising that nearly everybody was amazed at her not guilty verdict. Hollywood even took to Twitter to express their disbelief. In cases involving children, innocent helpless children, we need somebody to pay. If we aren’t protecting kids then what are we even doing?
I don’t know what happened definitively. Nobody but those involved do. But I try to believe in justice and sometimes justice and right and wrong conflict.
Casey Anthony will be free soon but there are no winners in this situation. And I honestly hope that she never ends up pregnant again. Fair or unfair, that’s a very real sentiment.
What did you think of the verdict? Do you agree or disagree with it?
